Cayuga offers every individual and team sport imaginable! The Athletic Program is noncompetitive in nature and philosophy. We stress self-improvement with emphasis on instruction rather than competition. Campers, who prefer more competition, are encouraged to join the intercamp team of their choice. Cayuga’s most popular land sports include:
The Athletic Department is supervised by our athletic director who is a professional educator and coach. Instruction is monitored by the athletic director, and provided by activity specialists who are college-aged students, graduate students, and young certified teachers. Instructors have documented experience in their specialty area as a competitor and instructor, and hold current certification in the activity for which they've been hired.
Instruction is geared to the camper's individual skill level. The instructors are patient and thorough, and act with due regard for both safety and enjoyment. Generally, the activity program emphasizes instruction during the first-half of each period, with recreational play-time for the remaining portion.
The daily program is noncompetitive in nature, but healthy competition does find its way into the activity program on a voluntary basis through Cayuga’s intercamp tournament program. Campers who enjoy competition are encouraged to sign-up for the intercamp team of their choice. You can be a member of as many teams as you wish, there’s no limit. There are no team try-outs either! Emphasis is placed on sportsmanship and having fun, rather than winning. However, Cayuga's tournament record includes more wins than losses!
Each summer we schedule over 50 tournaments with neighboring camps in Wayne County. Tournaments are organized by camper grade and gender. Some teams are coed, such as our archery and riflery teams. There’s an average of three tournaments scheduled daily. About half the tournaments are ‘away games’, which provides the opportunity to travel to other nearby camps. Intercamp Tournaments are a great way to add a little camp spirit to your summer and widen your travels! For more information about Cayuga’s Intercamp Tournament Program, click here.
